                        GENERAL INFORMATION

"The HumaxACTit ToolKit" is a comprehensive set of multiplatform
(Windows XP/ Vista; Linux) applications for the Humax 5400/5400Z/
5400Z+ to deal with Firmware, Settings and Keys.

IN ORDER TO RUN "The HumaxACTit ToolKit" ON YOUR SPECIFIC PLATFORM,
THE ADDITIONAL PROGRAM "ActiveTcl" MUST BE INSTALLED PREVIOUSLY!!!!!!!!
In the directory of HumaxACTit you find a file for easy und automatic
installion of ActiveTcl: "Install-ActiveTcl-Windows.bat"; for detailed
instructions on the installation process of ActiveTcl just scroll down
in this ReadMe to the section "Installation of ActiveTcl".

If you have any older Humax*it-programs on your system (they were
published separately in the past), please uninstall them before
starting The HumaxACTit ToolKit.
To perform this uninstallation just open the directory of any older
Humax*it-programs, double-click on the file "HumaxWinCONFIGUNISTALLit.bat"
and select remove option "9"; Option "9" will automatically remove a
specific configuration directory for the old Humax*it programs
("C:\Documents and Settings\Your_login_username\.humaxtools").
Afterwords the separate directories containing the old programs
themselves can be deleted manually by dragging them to the dustbin.
HumaxACTit, in contrast, doesn't come with different directories for each
program, but all programs are in 1 single directory: "HumaxACTit".
(During installation HumaxACTit additionally and automatically creates
a specific configuration directory: "C:\Documents and Settings\
Your_login_username\.humaxACTit"
Normal users don't have to deal with this configuration-directory
directly when using "The HumaxACTit ToolKit".)

For detailed information on starting "The HumaxACTit ToolKit" for the
first time just scroll down to the section "FIRST START
of 'The HumaxACTit-TOOLKIT'".

UPDATES and LATER VERSIONS of "The HumaxACTit ToolKit"

This may be the only release of "The HumaxACTit ToolKit" because
HumaxACTit boasts with an "Online Update"-feature which requires, of
course, a working connection to the internet.
In the menu "Options" of each tool you find an "Update HumaxACTit"
option to easily update the HumaxACTit ToolKit, supposed any update is
available.
Alternatively, the update can be performed by a special executable file
in the installation directory of "HumaxACTit": by "Update.tcl"
(for Windows) or by "Update" (for Linux).
By performing the "Update" from time to time you will enjoy the latest
developments and fixes concerning "The HumaxACTit ToolKit".

INSTALLATION of ActiveTcl for WINDOWS (XP/ Vista)

If this is the first time you use "The HumaxACTit Toolkit" (or one of the
Humax*it Tools) it is most likely that ActiveTcl is not yet installed on
your computer.

To install ActiveTcl you need a working internet connection as all the
files needed are to be downloaded (automatically) from the internet.
And you should have some time because the whole installation process may
take up to 30 minutes - depending on indivual speed of internet
connection, of course.

To start the installation of ActiveTcl open the directory of "HumaxACTit"
and double-click on the batch-file "Install-ActiveTcl-Windows.bat".
A DOS-Window appears offering three different options:

- Select (1) to install ActiveTcl
- Select (2) to update ActiveTcl packages
- Select (0) to quit

You are asked to "Type the number, followed by Return, to select an
install option". Type in "1" and press "Return": ActiveTcl will be
downloaded from Internet (progressing from 0 % to 100 %).
Before the download actually starts, it may well be that your firewall
is asking your permission for the internet connection to be established,
and this connection must, of course, be granted.
As soon as the download is completed a new additional window appears in
the foreground: "ActiveState ActiveTcl Installer" presenting the text
"Welcome ...." where you have to click on "Next".
The next page shows the "ActiveTcl Community License" which must be
accepted (option "I accept the terms in the license Agreement").
Click "Next".
Don't change the options of the following page "Please specify installed
directory and mode" and "Registry Settings", and just click on "Next".
Leave the page "Please specify the demos directory" unchanged and click
on "Next".

(Only those users who previously have installed ActiveTcl and have
forgotten to
uninstall/remove it completely will be seeing the following page:
"This distribution comes with a seed repository, which is found to be in
conflict with an existing repository at the chosen destination for the
installation. Please specify how to handle this conflict.
Conflict resolution:

- Keep the existing repository, and ignore the seed repository
- Replace the existing repository with the seed repository
- Merge the contents of the seed repository into the existing repository"

You may well choose the option "Replace the existing repository with the
seed repository" and click on "Next".
But actually this choice doesn't matter at all, as the "repository" will
be correctly arranged later on as a result of the automatic update.)

On the page "Click 'Next' to begin installation" you just have to -
guess what - click on "Next".

As soon as this part of basic Active TCL installation is finished, the
additional window "ActiveState ActiveTcl Installer" disappears and a new
window shows up to perform a necessary update: "Updating TCL packages.
Please wait ...". This may take some 20 minutes or more.

When the updating process is completed and when the window "Updating
TCL packages .." has disappeared, you should restart your computer.
After that all files belonging to the type "*.tcl" can be recognized
by a frog-symbol.

                    UNINSTALLATION of ActiveTcl

If for some reason you want to uninstall ActiveTcl later on, go to
"Start > All programs > ActiveTcl > Uninstall ActiveTcl".
After this automatic uninstallation you should restart your computer and
delete the following 2 directories:
- "Teapot" (location: "C:\Documents and Settings\Your_login_username\
  Teapot")
- "Tcl" (location: "C:\Tcl").
You can easily find these 2 directories using the Windows "Explorer":
right-click on Start (Windows XP) or Vista symbol (Windows Vista) > select
"Explorer from popup-menu > in the window on the left side search for the
directory "Teapot", right-click on it and select "delete";
Afterwords the same procedure for the directory "Tcl".

             FIRST START of "The HumaxACTit-TOOLKIT"

If ActiveTcl is installed, you can start "The HumaxACTit-TOOLKIT" by
double-clicking on any of the 3 "humax*it.tcl"-files:

- "humaxkeydit.tcl" or
- "humaxsetit.tcl" or
- "humaxtoolit.tcl".

Before starting the HumaxACTit tool for the first time, the Humax 5400
should be turned on and connected to your computer to enable automatic
recognition of serial port; you don't need to worry if recognition of
serial port fails ("Humax not found") during first start-up (this may
happen even if the Humax 5400 has been turned on and connected properly),
because you can arrange serial port settings afterwards.

At first start "The HumaxACTit Toolkit" will show the window "HumaxACTit
Installation" where you can start the automatic installation and
configuration.

After the Installation ("Examining you system ...") is finished and after
the Humax*it tool has been started successfully, take a look at the
"Configuration" of the program by clicking on the button on the right
side (symbol for spanner/ wrench) and check if the correct serial port
is registered there. If you see "none", make sure that your Humax is
urned on and connected to your PC and then click on "Search": The serial
ports are scanned and the correct serial comport should be registered.
If not, you can simply type in the appropriate serial port as "COM1",
"COM2", "COM3" .... Don't forget to click on "OK and SAVE" afterwards.

Use the Help button on the Menu bar to get help.

When the HumaxACTit Installation is finshed it is wise to restart your
Computer (again). I think that I will have a little talk with Billy Gates
about this issue.

Have Fun.
